Making Meaning:
Six new Canadian writers encounter the Art Gallery of Ontario
Art Gallery of Ontario, with Pen Canada. 2000. 40 pages
Design: Bryan Gee

This booklet designed when I worked in-house at the Art Gallery of Ontario features essays by novelists and poets who describe visits to the museum through the lens of their experiences as immigrants. Each text was accompanied by a different detail from the same master photograph (presented as the frontispiece) taken during the museum’s construction in the early 20th century. Discovering the narrative potential in a single photograph is one of the experiences that led me in the direction of developing a visual novel based on archival photographs.
