Bryan Gee
I am a book designer, writer, art director and visual editor currently engaged in the development of what can best be described as a visual novel.
I also work as an Art Director at The Globe and Mail, Canada’s national newspaper, where I have played a leading role launching new projects including Globe Style section and magazine, and the Saturday Opinion section. I have family roots going back generations in newspapers, a history reflected in one of my most recent book projects: the design for a collection of essays written by my uncle, Robert Fulford, A Life In Paragraphs.
I have held senior design positions at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Saturday Night Magazine and Bruce Mau Design where I led one of the studio’s four teams and collaborated directly with the Museum of Modern Art, Zone Books, Deutsche Bank Art and the Gagosian Gallery.
In December of 2019 I presented models and experiments for my visual novel as a work-in-progress at the conference Memory, Word and Image: W.G. Sebald’s Artistic Legacies, University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam School for Heritage, Memory and Material Culture.
On Thursday, October 27th, 2022 I will deliver a talk for the 39th Alcuin Book Design Award Ceremony at The Arts & Letters Club of Toronto on the subject of The Image & the Page in Visual Books.
