Folded Book\Work: Fidel Castro
All of these Folded Books are studies, or object sketches that I used to clarify and challenge my understanding of how the juxtaposition of full-page images work as sequences sustained throughout a book.
I start with publications that are designed with a large number of full-bleed images. The ideal source book is one that employed a systematic layout (for example consistently printed images on left hand pages as is the case with this book). My process is to fold all the pages of the book in half to conceal all the text pages. The accidental juxtaposition of fragmented images activates unintended meanings which point in promising directions as I develop the image language for my visual novel.
My intention with these manipulated books was to see them as process pieces, but after going through this chance operation some books emerge as surprisingly coherent objects in themselves.
